I’m Dr. Angelica Harrell
I practice Integrative Psychiatry.
The name of the practice – MA’AT– represents my holistic,
integrative philosophy- a life of truth, balance, wisdom,
order, harmony, morality.
My goal is to co-create a plan with you from the combination of conventional modern medicine plus holistic approaches to move you towards your view of optimal health, rather than disease management. I use medications as well as comprehensive lab testing (including hormones and genetics when appropriate), nutrition, supplements, and botanicals to help you feel calmer, less-inflamed, brighter and more aligned with your values.
- I have a bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from Rice University.
- I have a medical degree (M.D.) from the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX and completed my psychiatry residency there as well.
- I’m a board-certified psychiatrist licensed in Texas.
- I have spent most of my years practicing in at either VA hospitals or clinic or community based clinics in the Greater Houston area.
- I have a wealth of experience in treating people with chronic and severe mental illness in emergency room, inpatient and consultation settings.
- I am a teacher at heart and have always been involved in instruction of students at various levels including, medical students, nursing students, physician assistant students and psychiatry and family practice residents.
- Close personal experience with illnesses revealed that most disease was not well addressed with conventional medicine alone. I found that it took a “deeper dive” and the incorporation of functional medicine to get to optimal health. It led me to learn more about how things like nutrition, supplementation with appropriate minerals, herbs and vitamins lifestyle changes and other laboratory and genetic studies could aid in healing. I studied integrative and functional medicine with a focus on psychiatry to improve outcomes with my patients.
